Taping for 2nd Metatarsal Pain

Many patients develop pain in and around the 2nd toe and metatarsal. Along with Budin Splints (see separate posting), kinesiotaping can be used well to immobilize the second and/or third metatarsal joints.

  1. Hello. I don't know if you're still active with this blog but I wanted to ask if taping (in general) and/or this technique would be recommended for what's been diagnosed as bursitis in my 2nd metatarsal. Both an x-ray and MRI this month (March 2017) were negative for stress fracture but I continue to have slight but visible swelling and a constant dull ache/pain at the site. There was initially discoloration that I took to be bruising but as it's now almost
April 2017 and my symptoms started in Dec 2016, I'm not sure what to think. I was a professional ballet dancer for many years with no foot injuries and have been teaching for many years now at a greatly reduced level of activity, also without issue until this. I think I landed a jump too hard in late November when I first noticed symptoms. I can point my toes still on that foot but the 2nd toe will not go all the way down as it should/did. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
