What is your experience with return to athletics for non-union fractures? At what point do you finally throw in the towel and get surgery if you're unable to return to sports, but can do lower level activities like walking and chores?
ReplyDeleteEllen, it is all about your quality of life. Some patients can't or won't have surgery, so we have to manage them at 0-2 pain levels to attempt increasing activities. For me, if I have been using a bone stimulator and doing contrast bathes 4-5 times a week for 2 years, and the non-union will not heal, then I would have surgery. Some would not wait as long, but most of my patients follow this principle. Good luck! Rich
