Abrasion: From Trying on New Shoes

This nice patient with bunions and hammertoes bought a new pair of shoes this weekend. After only a few hours at home, his 4th toe on the right foot (his longer foot) started complaining. I had him wear an topical anesthetic and bandaid for 2 weeks as the new skin begins to regrow. I also had him get a medium foam toe cap to soften the impact from his shoes. That he will wear one week longer than he thinks he needs to wear. He will expose the skin to air for healing when home barefoot. He will soak in warm water and 2 tablespoons of salt for one hour a day until much better, and then 30 minutes a day until perfect.
